Silent Shark Patrol Radio and Intel

Radio chatter, patrol orders, and contact reports — how intel reshapes routing in the full Pacific campaign.

Patrol Radio and Intel

In Silent Shark’s full campaign (planned August 12, 2026), radio intelligence and patrol orders complement organic hydrophone search. You receive contact reports, zone assignments, and historical context that tell you where to hunt — then you still must plot intercepts, identify targets, and execute TDC attacks yourself. Radio does not auto-solve contacts; it prioritizes attention on a vast Pacific chart.

Demo players can practice the underlying skills without radio — see First Patrol — but campaign skippers who ignore radio leave tonnage and reputation on the table.

Types of radio information

Expected intel categories at launch include:

  • Patrol zone orders — geographic boxes where your presence fulfills command objectives.
  • Contact reports — coarse bearing/area hints requiring verification.
  • Historical event notices — context shifts (e.g., port closures, convoy reroutes) affecting traffic.
  • Special missions — late-war lifeguard searches and similar objective-driven tasks mentioned in developer materials.

Treat every report as probabilistic. Verify with hydrophone bearings and Four Bearings before flooding tubes.

Reading a contact report

Typical reports may include approximate bearing from a reference point, time late, and maybe speed class (“slow merchant”, “fast convoy”). Plot the hint as an area on Map Tools, not a pin — intel age matters. A report six hours old might describe a contact sixty miles from your current position.

Transit toward the area at listen speed. Begin hydrophone watch before you arrive — contacts sometimes miss the box entirely. If bearings never materialize, log negative search and return to assigned patrol work; empty chases cost Resources fuel.

Patrol zone orders

Orders define success beyond tonnage. You may need presence days inside a rectangle on the authentic chart while still hunting opportunistically. Leaving the box for a juicy radio contact might violate orders even if you sink a merchant — career consequences at launch may include reputation hits or command messages.

Mark zone boundaries on the chart at patrol start. Plan diving points for aircraft lanes before crossing open water — Pacific Overview.

Merging radio with hydrophone

  1. Plot radio hint area on Map Tools.
  2. Run silent search legs through the area at listen speed.
  3. On contact, start timestamped bearing series — do not chase first noise blindly.
  4. Decide commit only when plot + intel agree within reasonable error.
  5. Refresh bearings after long transit — stale intel plus fresh screws beats fresh intel plus lazy plotting.

Radio saves time; hydrophone saves lives when intel is stale.

Prioritization under constraints

Campaign adds fuel, torpedoes, and time in zone limits — Resources. Chasing every report outside your patrol box may violate orders or strand you short of fuel. Sometimes the correct call is to ignore a distant contact and finish the assigned area thoroughly.

Decision matrix:

FactorChase contact?
Inside patrol box + fuel OKYes
Outside box, low fuelNo
Stale report, no screwsNo
Lifeguard mission activeOverride merchant chase

Special missions: lifeguard

Late-war lifeguard orders prioritize search areas over tonnage. Radio traffic may shift abruptly when aviators are down — read messages fully before abandoning an intercept you already plotted. These missions reuse the same periscope and chart skills but change win condition.

Intel security and OPSEC

While Silent Shark is not a crypto mini-game, career tone assumes disciplined communications. Rapid contact spam after attacks can be reflected in narrative feedback or escort reinforcement timing in scenario design — exact behavior documented post-launch.

Demo parallels

Scenario generator parameters (distance, heading, weather) mimic imperfect advance knowledge similar to radio. Practice deciding go/no-go before descending — habits transfer directly. Set generator spawns with offset headings and pretend the spawn hint was radio — then verify with four bearings only.

Training before August 2026

  1. Run demo convoys without looking at generator preview — blind spawn as pseudo-radio.
  2. Time how long four bearings take — compare to fuel burn on chart ruler.
  3. Abort one attack per session intentionally when intel/plot disagree — builds discipline.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Silent Shark questions.

Does patrol radio auto-mark enemies on the chart in Silent Shark?

No. Radio provides hints and orders you must verify with hydrophone bearings and plotting — same skill loop as the demo, plus prioritization.

Is radio intel available in the demo?

Full patrol radio and campaign orders are planned for the August 2026 release. Demo focuses on standalone encounters and tutorials.

What if radio intel contradicts hydrophone bearings?

Trust your bearing plot series over stale reports. Re-observe, adjust intercept, or abort if geometry never closes.
